FRANZ-HERMANN HIRLINGER

 

Franz-Hermann Hirlinger studied Economics, Management and Public Relations at the universities of Pforzheim and Berlin.

In 1984 he first came to Japan with a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service. Upon his return to Germany he joined DZ Bank as Stock and Bond Analyst in Frankfurt and regularly provided expert commentary on the Japanese stock market on German TV's "Teleboerse" program.

During his tenure at Hilti AG in Liechtenstein and from 1990 at Credit Suisse Asset Management in Tokyo Franz-Hermann was in charge of all investment strategy and implementation for Asia.

In 1994 he became Managing Director of Bayerische Landesbank in Japan and also set up the Korean location in Seoul. In addition he founded and managed the representative offices of the Bavarian Economic Co-operation Council "Invest in Bavaria" in both countries.

Shortly after the financial crisis in 1998 Hirlinger was elected non-executive board member at Samsung; the first non-Korean board member at any Korean corporation. He also became an "Independent Director" on the board of Allianz Life Korea.

As an expert on Korea Franz-Hermann is also a senior consultant for "Invest in Germany".
